This leniency stems from a new rule implemented by the BCCI at the start of IPL 2025, which states that players who voluntarily withdraw after being selected in the mega auction cannot participate in the next two seasons. However, this rule is overridden by the Force Majeure Clause.

Reasons Behind IPL Suspension

The BCCI announced a seven-day suspension of the IPL following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, which raised fears of a potential large-scale conflict. The decision came after the unexpected cancellation of the PBKS match against DC at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, where the situation escalated, prompting a swift evacuation when the lights went out. DC subsequently urged the BCCI to delay the IPL for a week.
